Accommodations: Two casitas and a studio

• Casita Serena: Built in the adobe tradition and beautifully appointed in Santa Fe style. This comfortable casita is fully furnished and includes a den, kitchenette, bedroom, and bathroom with laundry facilities. The private portal of this guest casita looks out on the organic vegetable and flower gardens. It sleeps 1-4.
• Casita de Kwan Yin: Spacious and bright one-bedroom casita, with passive solar construction. This casita has a private patio, full bath, and comfortable eat-in kitchen. It sleeps 1-2.
• Casita Celestial: Large studio with sleeping loft, completed in 2002. This may be the ideal accommodation for the artist or writer on sabbatical. Its 660 square feet include kitchen and bath. Laundry room is adjacent. The sleeping loft has a built-in bed, and plenty of shelf space for TV, books, and clothes. The tall ceiling and walls provide expansiveness for creativity and the north-facing windows, excellent light for artwork. It sleeps 1-4.

Availability: Year round for families and individuals doing intensive therapy, education, or retreats.

Pets: Welcome, with pet deposit.

Smoking: Llama Deara Ranch is a non-smoking facility. Smoking is possible in the patios and on the portals.

Description: Llama Deara Ranch is a renewable llama farm with guest facilities, in Medanales village in the Abiquiu region of Northern New Mexico. Located on the Chama River, Abiquiu enjoys the contributions of over two thousand years made by the Native tribes and Pueblo Indians, with Spanish influence via Mexico starting four centuries ago. Modern Northern New Mexico is multicultural, with Hispanic, American Indian, and Anglo residents. For some, the Abiquiu region is the spirit center of New Mexico.

Llama Deara can provide a home base to explore the Land of Enchantment via Taos, Santa Fe, the Santuario de Chimayo, and the Abiquiu landscape made famous by Georgia O’Keeffe. The ranch covers four acres that extend to the banks of the Chama River, with its spectacular views beyond. The land is graced with a small herd of llamas, vegetable gardens, pastures, and meditation spots.

Climate and Elevation: The elevation is about 6000 ft. (2000 m) with a climate similar to nearby Santa Fe (7000 ft.) and temperature and precipitation similar to Los Alamos. Check Current weather.

Guests may enjoy a variety of special sites and activities on the four-acre ranch: picnicking at the bosque - the forest at the bank of the beautiful Chama River; a morning or evening jog along the path from the guest facilities to the Chama; meditating in the apple grove; communing with the llamas in their pastures or barnyard; browsing the flower and vegetable gardens in the shade of giant cottonwoods; enjoying the acequia, an aqueduct that irrigates Llama Deara and the neighboring farms and ranches, with its quaint bridges; and so on.
